Design Research and Design Theory

The Chair of Design Research and Design Theory focuses on generating knowledge through experimental design. It involves both analytical-systematic exploration and pragmatic-applied design practice. The research emphasizes future-oriented, practice-based approaches while also providing insights into past and current theoretical discourses.

The key questions guiding this academic investigation are:
- How can design disciplines contribute to critical knowledge production in the face of complex challenges?
- How can sustainability and transformation principles be integrated into design practice from a global perspective?
- In what ways do designers influence the development and change of existing and future power structures?
- What responsibility do designers have in terms of the impact of their designs on the environment and society?

These questions are addressed through interdisciplinary courses and research, aiming to deepen the understanding of design's role in today's society and its potential to address social, ecological, and ethical challenges.
