Das Labor für Kreative Robotik lädt zur Lecture von Karl Singline und Maria Smigielska.
Moderation: Johannes Braumann
Despite their name, Industrial robots are no longer just high-tech tools found in large industries, but have become accessible to architects, artists, and designers. The creative community using those machines is steadily growing and internationally well networked.
With Karl Singline and Maria Smigielska, Creative Robotics has invited two young and highly active researchers within that community. Karl’s lecture will focus on his experience and projects with robotic arms in Australia and most recently Barcelona. He will be joined by CR researcher Maria Smigielska who will give an insight into her current projects that happen between Linz, Switzerland, and Poland.

This event has been kindly supported by the Institute of Space and Design at UfG Linz.
Karl Singline is a graduate architect and roboticist from Australia. After graduating from the University of Tasmania, where he played a key role in integrating a KUKA robotic arm into the curriculum for both the school of architecture as well as other faculties and community groups, he launched his popular YouTube channel with over 100,000 views. Specializing in tutorials on visual programming and robotics. Currently based in Barcelona, Karl is undertaking his second masters through a postgraduate scholarship.
Maria Smigielska is an architect, creative designer and a researcher oscillating between architecture, arts and technology. Graduated from Architecture at TU Poznan (Poland, 2009) and CAAD at ETH Zurich (Switzerland, 2013). Balancing between research and the applied world, joined Baierbischofberger Architects, Zurich in 2014 to implement computational design methods and rationalize complex geometries of arts-oriented buildings, as well as assisted in various innovative academic project of smaller scale. Develops robotic processes for both fabrication (robotic rod bending – bendilicious.com) and artistic expression with the use of machine learning as a medium for human creativity and knowledge.
About Creative Robotics:
Creative Robotics is a research unit within the University for Arts and Design Linz that was set up with the goal of investigating robotics as an interface between the digital and physical world. We work with robotic arms – industrial machines that just like a human hand can be equipped with a wide variety of tools. Rather than using them for industrial mass fabrication, our research focuses on radical customization in the areas of design, art, architecture, and digital media, as well as craft, where the goal is not to replace human craftsmanship, but actually to augment and reinterpret it.
Getting there:
Enter the building at Hauptplatz 6, there are two elevators – one closer to Hauptplatz and the other one further away. Take the elevator that is further away to the 5th floor. In case you are lost, please ask at the front desk for directions. For any further questions, you can contact Prof. Braumann at johannes.braumann@ufg.at or +43(0)664-4535388
