Vortrag von Alenka Zupančič im Rahmen der Reihe "relatifs". The ‘end’, in the form of various menacing or ongoing disasters, is becoming a forceful part of our reality. The prevalent modality of our responding to the real of different crises is neither their proper acknowledgment nor simply their denial, but rather what psychoanalysis has conceptualized under the term of disavowal, Verleugnung. Disavowal is not simply about denying or ignoring a threat, but about robbing it of its reality, while being fully aware of it. We are in a perverse situation where our knowledge about something becomes a perfect alibi for ignoring it, and where we are more afraid of being scared to death than of actually dying.
