Interface Cultures @ AI&Art Pavilion für Esch Kulturhauptstadt 2022 Im Rahmen der Vorlesung Critical Data der Abteilung Interface Cultures tauschten sich die Studierenden der Kunstuniversität Linz im Sommersemester 2022 mit Professor*innen, PhD-Kandidat*innen und Studierenden der University of Luxembourg, Faculty of Science, Technology, and Medicine, Department of Computer Science aus. Sie entwickelten einerseits Arbeiten, die kritisch auf bestehende Datensets im Bereich Machine Learning blickten oder versuchten sich selbst am Aufbau solcher. Sie reflektierten andererseits gemeinsam, welche Attraktion diese Modelle, die der Künstlichen Intelligenz zugeschrieben werden, auf Menschen ausüben und loteten Faszination und Unheimlichkeit aus um unter anderem in spekulativer Art und Weise den unterschiedlichen Stimmen und Welten der Technologie nachzuspüren und Formen der Wahrnehmung (von Menschen vs. Maschinen) zu hinterfragen. Die Studierenden wurden gemeinsam mit Prof. Manuela Naveau nach Luxemburg eingeladen, um dort nicht nur die entstandenen Arbeiten im Rahmen des AI&Art Pavilion der Kulturhauptstadt-Aktivitäten Esch2022 zu präsentieren, sondern in gemeinsamen Reflexionsrunden auch zu besprechen. Unterstützt wurden die Studierenden von Daniel Karpati, der als PhD-Kandidat an der Uni Luxembourg zu Ethik und KI forscht und gemeinsam mit seinem Betreuer und Leiter des AI Pavillions Prof. Christoph Schommer sowie Prof. Leon Van der Torre, führende Forscher zum Thema Logiken in KI, diese Zusammenarbeit ermöglichte. Die Studierenden tauschten sich im Besonderen auch mit den angehenden Computerwissenschaftler*innen Fatima Zahra Fathi and Nooshin Shojaee der Uni Luxembourg aus. _______________________________________________________________________ Interface Cultures @ AI&Art Pavilion for Esch Cultural Capital 2022 In the context of the lecture Critical Data of the Interface Cultures department, students of the Kunstuniversität Linz exchanged ideas with professors, PhD candidates and students of the University of Luxembourg, Faculty of Science, Technology, and Medicine, Department of Computer Science in the summer semester 2022. On the one hand, they developed work that looked critically at existing datasets in the field of machine learning or tried to build such datasets themselves. On the other hand, they reflected together on the attraction that these models, which are attributed to artificial intelligence, exert on people and sounded out fascination and uncanniness in order, among other things, to trace the different voices and worlds of technology in a speculative manner and to question forms of human vs. machinic perception. Together with Prof. Manuela Naveau, the students were invited to Luxembourg not only to present their work in the AI&Art Pavilion of the Capital of Culture activities Esch2022, but also to discuss it in joint reflection rounds. The students were supported by Daniel Karpati, who is researching Ethics & AI as a PhD candidate at the University of Luxembourg, and together with his supervisor and head of the AI&Art Pavilion, Prof. Christoph Schommer, and Prof. Leon Van der Torre, leading researchers in AI, made this collaboration possible. In particular, the students also exchanged ideas with the future computer scientists Fatima Zahra Fathi and Nooshin Shojaee from the University of Luxembourg.
