Our second event will present different ways to look into the Danube through the eyes of artists, scientists and designers. We will talk about their methods, how they collaborate, listen to their personal stories and maybe their songs. We are very interested in understanding how their work, whether artistic or scientific, have shaped their relationship with this sensitive force of nature. We understand the river as an artery through which communication and exchanges, not only human but also interspecies, have been established since long before humans started navigating, cultivating and establishing their settlements along it. For this special event we are happy to count with: Prof. Elsa Prochazka, Time's Up, Christina Gruber, Julian Stadon, Rainer Prohaska, Karol Kensy, Smirna Kulenovic, Julia Moser and Su-Mara & Yuti Kainz.

From their laboratories between the Danube and the industrial trading harbour in Linz, Time's Up have developed a number of projects around the water, from floating objects and journeys to legal investigations and the speculative near future ocean side city of Turnton.
Christina Gruber is a freshwater ecologist, visual artist and sturgeon caretaker. In her work, she deals with societal phenomena and their effects on the earth’s surface. Water is of special interest to her as it is the connector between stories of different places and layers, from clouds to data centers. In 2018, she published together with Paula Cohen the book From Mud To Outer Space, which navigates along large rivers exploring interspecies relationships, alternative forms of care, political resilience, and ecological pedagogy using speculative narrative. Christina is a scientific researcher and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna. As part of the LIFE Sterlet project, she works to strengthen the wild populations of sturgeon in the Danube. She currently teaches at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and the University of Art and Design Linz. Since 2019 she is part of the servus.at Research Lab critically investigate the relationships between digital ecosystems and their ecological impacts.
Julian Stadon is a subjective realist, artist, designer, curator, researcher, and educator originally from Ngarluma country in North Western Australia . His nomadic practice-based research interfaces art, bio-digital entanglements, identity, embodied interactivity, food ecologies, sustainability, culture and society. His PhD thesis examines Post-Biological Identity and Augmentation Aesthetics through theData Body Trader project, the establishment of The Mixed and Augmented Reality Art Organisationand the iterative processes, outcomes and conclusions resulting from these endeavours. Stadon haspresented and his work and been academically active for nearly twenty years across five continents and currently teaches on the Interface Cultures program at Kunstuniversität Linz. He also runs an experimental agriculture project TeleAgriCulture and often works with Stadtwerkstatt, V2_, Donautics and Scwhemmland.
Rainer Prohaska, (*1966) lives & works in Vienna. He studied Experimental Media Art at the Angewandte in Vienna and is particularly interested in phenomena and objects of everyday life, which he changes in a humorous way and places in the context of art in an adapted version. Since 2002, he has been involved in projects that artistically address issues of ecology and sustainability. Within this context, he foundet the NPO "FUTURAMA-LAB", which deals with these future related topics. Prohaska also became a pioneer of artistic research in the Danube region. To make these investigations possible on the banks of this river, he builds special vessels. In 2020, the MS-FUSION A.I.R. programme was launched in this context.
The “MS-FUSION A.I.R.” is an "Artist & Scientist In Residence" program, based on a customized ship, floating downstream the river Danube.
Besides art projects related to the Danube, he realised exhibitions & projects at 798-Beijing, Himalaya Art Museum Shanghai, Hong Kong, Moscow Biennale, MOCAK Krakow, MAK Center Los Angeles, ACF New York, for the Transformer Station in Cleveland and in Vienna for the Albertina, Künstlerhaus, KUNST HAUS WIEN and for the MAK. Rainer Prohaska is a regular guest at international festivals such as the Luminato Festival in Toronto, Donaufestival in Krems, SIAF in Sapporo, Steirischer Herbst in Graz and the ARS Electronica in Linz.
Karol Kensy, born in Szubin (Poland), grew up, lives and works in Upper Austria. Mainly active under the pseudonym Kensee, he is a music producer, filmmaker, DJ, sound designer, and multi-media artist.
Smirna Kulenović is a transdisciplinary artist, researcher and educator based in Vienna, Austria. She currently collaborates with Ars Electronica Center (BioLab and Deep Space), and is graduating (2022) from the department of Interface Cultures at the University of Arts and Design Linz (MA), Austria with her thesis "Performing Landscapes of Care". Her practice focuses on rituals in performance, participatory, and public art - as forms of addressing cultural, personal and environmental embodiments of memory within post-crisis landscapes. Her latest artistic research focuses on care in human-landscape interaction, through spiritualized methods of interspecies dialogue.
She is the founder and artistic coordinator of the Collective for artistic research in public space Dobre Kote in Lisbon (Portugal) and Sarajevo (BiH) and the international Nomadic Collective for Performing Spontanoues Action TAZ 22 (Brazil, Italy, France, Portugal, Austria, Bosnia), as well as the curator and founder of the independent art gallery "Brodac" in Sarajevo. Her works are shown, performed and kept in collections internationally from the Royal Institute of Arts Stockholm, Courtauld Institute of Arts London, Careof Milan, Atelier Concorde Paris, Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb, the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Maneouvre Gallery Berlin, Zaratan Lisbon,…
Julia Moser (1992) sees her mission in re-thinking fashion and textile design practices and production processes to leading humans closer to nature again and create a healthier future. Holding two master degrees in textile.art.design as well as Fashion&Technology from the University of Art and Industrial Design Linz, she uses new technologies to find alternative ways of thinking design and design processes with a focus on material innovation and biodesign. With a background in art history and fine arts, projects by Julia Moser have been shown in various museums and galleries, such as Ars Electronica/AT, Nordico/AT, Kulturtankstelle/AT, Salzamt/AT, IFK/AT, at the Minitextile Biennale/CZ/SVK or the Al-Tarhal gallery/OM. Furthermore her designs could be presented at New Designers/UK and Première Vision/FR. Her freelance designs for the textile design studios SC Touch and Fluxus could be offered and sold in Japan, Milan, Paris, Istanbul, Munich, Frankfurt…
While both studying architecture, Yuti & Su-Mara Kainz have been accompanied by design throughout their whole lives. As children of an artist mother and a father teaching meditation, both art and spirituality have been their main topics. The central concern of their work is to revive the spiritual connection between man and nature by creating a poetic and meditative atmospheres.

Elsa Prochazka, born in Vienna. Office architectureality_space&designstrategies in Vienna. Urban planning, housing, public buildings, office and industrial construction, Museum conception and exhibition design, design and crossover. After teaching at Gesamthochschule Universität Kassel, D, The Bartlett, University College London, UK, she was teaching at Kunstuniversität Linz, A, from 2001-2013, and worked out the project „flagship europe“ with colleagues and students. Then visiting professor at Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, and 2022, at Politecnico di Milano, Italy.
