Der Khipu ist eine Knotenschrift und diente im früheren Inkareich als Instrument zur Informationsübertragung, zum einen, um statistische Daten zu erfassen, und zum anderen als narratives Zeichensystem. Die verknoteten Schnüre aus Baumwolle und Wolle bilden ein greifbares Zwischenstück zu einer verschlüsselten Nachricht. Dieses Kommunikationssystem war über die gesamte Andenregion verbreitet, bis der Großteil der bestehenden Khipus durch die spanische Kolonialbewegung zerstört wurde. Knotting the memory// Encoding the Khipu ist eine Hommage an diese Technik zur Informationsübertragung. Die Künstlerin nutzt diese spezielle Art von Kommunikation als Instrument für die Erzeugung von experimentellem Sound. Sie nimmt die Position einer zeitgenössischen „khipukamayuq“ (Khipu- Knüpferin) ein. Mit dem Knüpfen jedes Knotens entsteht eine audiovisuelle Komposition, die metaphorisch für die Aufrechterhaltung der Erinnerung an den Widerstand der indigenen Bevölkerung der Anden steht.
A Khipu is a device used in the ancient Inca Empire for the processing and transmission of statistical and narrative information. Linked to textile art, it is a tangible interface encrypted in knots and cords of cotton and wool. This system was widely used throughout the Andean region, until the Spanish colonization that prohibited and destroyed much of the existing Khipus. This performance wants to pay homage to the Khipu, reusing it as an instrument for interaction and generation of experimental live sound and video. The artist will be a contemporary khipukamayuq(Khipu knotter) who seeks to encode the interrupted legacy of this ancestral practice through the knots. With each knot made, an audiovisual composition is constructed that yearns to vindicate the memory and indigenous resistance of the native peoples of the Andes.

In Particia Cadavids Arbeiten spielt die persönliche Geschichte als Migrantin eine präsente Rolle. Thematisch beschäftigt sie sich mit den Auswirkungen der Kolonialgeschichte, sie setzt diese in Beziehung mit neuen Medien und lässt dadurch Vergessenes wieder in Erscheinung treten.
Die Arbeit "knotting the memory//encoding the khipu_" wurde im Rahmen der Ausstellung bestoff 2019 gezeigt.
