3:15 min, Loop "Chanten und Mansen sind indigene Völker, die in Sibirien in dem Teil leben, aus dem die Künstlerin kommt. Sie wohnen in den Taigawäldern und bauen sich alles, was sie zum Leben brauchen, selbst.
Eines der wichtigsten Dinge für sie ist ihre Beziehung zur Natur. Die Künstlerin ist fasziniert davon, wie diese Bevölkerungsgruppen es scheinbar verstehen, ein Gleichgewicht zwischen Nehmen und Geben zu halten. Die Khanty bekennen sich zum Schamanismus. Für sie sind die Geister in allen lebenden Dingen enthalten. Ihre Einstellung zum Wasser ist sogar noch erstaunlicher. Einerseits ist es das, was allen Lebewesen Leben gibt, andererseits ist es etwas, das mit großer Vorsicht behandelt werden muss. Der Fluss ist ein Wegweiser zwischen der Welt des Lebens und des Todes. Sie versuchen, den Geistern gegenüber respektvoll zu sein und ihre Rituale anzuwenden, bevor sie ins Wasser gehen.
Der Text im Video basiert auf dem Wissen über diese Bräuche und die Wahrnehmung des Flusses. Das Video enthält Ausschnitte von drei verschiedenen Stellen desselben Flusses an verschiedenen Tagen." Started November 2021 "Khanty and Mansi are small indigenous peoples who inhabit the places of Siberia from the part where I come from. They live in the taiga forest and build everything they need for life on their own. One of the main things for them is their relation with nature. I am fascinated by their approach to it and how they know how to keep a balance between taking and
giving.
Khanty professes shamanism. For them, spirits are contained in all alive things.Their attitude to water is even more stunning. On the one hand, this is what gives life to all living things and on the other hand, this is something that needs to be treated with treats with big caution. The river is a guide between the world of life and death. They try to be respectful to the spirits and use their rituals before going to the water. Every spring for example they bring sweets to the river to appease the spirits. Also, according to their customs, the dead people were sent down the river in a boat in the direction of the north.
So that the river will transfer the deceased to the world of the dead. Therefore, splashing or hitting the river and everything that is nearby is prohibited. Otherwise, it is disrespectful to the spirits.
In the first part of the research, I did a video and watercolor sketches. The text in the video is based on my knowledge of customs and my perception of being on the river. The video contains pieces at three different locations of the same river on different days. Watercolor sketches represent shapes and patterns of states and components of the river."
