Sound creation systems, instrumental objects and physical sound processing

Through a number of different methods of sound generation by means of traditional instruments, rudimentary objects and various forms of technology, Hugo Morales Murguía elaborates on a series of works in which exploration, design and invention of complex sound structures delimit the basis for the development of music composition and sound art.

Redefining the boundaries of traditional instruments, the utilization of found objects, the exploration of technology and performance techniques, and the development of alternative forms of sound generation for music composition are essential elements of my work.

He holds a Ph.D. from the Centre of Contemporary Music Practice at Brunel University in London and currently teaches Sound Composition and Creative Technologies at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. His music has been awarded by associations and competitions like: Mexican Music Council 2003, International Gaudeamus Music Week 2008 (NL), International Forum of New Music 2010 (MX), “Grand Prize” Tokyo Experimental Festival 2013 (JP), Iberṁúsicas 2017 (ES), Willem Pijper Prijs 2017 (NL) and Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte 2019 (MX), among others.
