Studierende der Bildnerischen Erziehung und Mediengestaltung präsentieren ihre Arbeiten, welche im Rahmen der Lehrveranstaltung "Projekt BE/MG Art and Social Justice" unter der Leitung von Gastprofessorin Dr. Mika Cho (California State University, Los Angeles, CA, USA) entstanden sind.
Die Bedeutung und Absicht der Kunst hat sich im Laufe der Geschichte aus Handwerk, Religion, Innovation durch Ideologie und Theorie, Kunst um der Kunst Willen, technischen Erneuerungen und manchmal aus dem Bestreben nach sozialer und kultureller Gerechtigkeit heraus entwickelt. Die Ausstellung „In Context“ greift letzteren Aspekt auf und zeigt Studierendenarbeiten der Lehrveranstaltung Projekt BE “Art and Socio-cultural Justice”. In den Arbeiten dazu versuchten die Studierenden Berührungspunkte zwischen Kunst und sozialem Wandel herauszuarbeiten und mit unterschiedlichen Medien ästhetische, soziale, kulturelle, politische und ökologische Fragestellungen künstlerisch praktisch zu erforschen. Die Ausstellung soll als diskursive Plattform fungieren, um diese Konzepte weiterzudenken.

BE Project “Art and Socio-cultural Justice”

The meaning and purpose of art making in history have evolved from such activities as mastering skills, celebrating religions, inventing original ideas and styles base on ideology and theory, art for art sake, technological innovation, and sometimes even desire for social and cultural justice for humanity. This exhibition, “In Context,” presents students’ work created in the course, BE Project “Art and Socio-cultural Justice”. Students attempted to expose the tangled relationship between art and social change through their work based on developed ideas deals with social justice. They explored various media and the aesthetical, social, cultural, political, and ecological issues involved in creating art that affects human lives. Art can inspire, provoke, thrill, and sometimes offend its audience, and often the same artwork attracts both acclaim and condemnation. This exhibition provides a forum for engaging a discourse and a context in which that promotes the evolution of these issues and concepts.
The artwork by Michaela Bliem, Johannes Gangl, Klaus Hollinetz, Isabella Kaineder, Jelena Lazic, Hana Mysakova, Andrea Philipp, Silke Standler, Elina Maarit Teitti, Martin Veigl and the fotodokumentation by photographer, Tom Mesic are presented in this exhibition.
