Opening the Art Concept through the Participatory:
The Physical Involvement of the Viewer from the Historical Avant-garde to Contemporary Art.

The role and the meaning of the viewer in contemporary art has changed throughout the second half of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century. In many contemporary exhibitions, works of art are being presented which in one way or another are actively involving the audience – letting them make decisions and execute actions which turn their role into that of a participant.
