The Design and Technology Department at the Institute for Art and Education is responsible for the Design:Technology.Textiles (in future Technology and Design) teacher training program and the Crafting Futures Lab. The department focuses on teaching specialist knowledge and design skills in this field, which includes both project-based design teaching and scientific and artistic-scientific exploration in the field of technology and design. The Crafting Futures Lab (www.craftingfutures.net) aims to explore the current potential and interconnections between craftsmanship and new technologies and to develop creative ideas and innovative solutions for socially relevant issues and teaching practices in the field of tension between tradition and innovation.
The department brings together expertise from the fields of design, architecture, technology, textiles, fashion, and education, opening up a wide range of activities in teaching and research. As a cooperation partner for educational and cultural institutions as well as for industry, it actively shapes social and societally relevant developments.
