Film lab course >> starting again in the fall at the Kunstuni!
for girls aged 12 and over (and interested boys)
The aim of the course is to give girls the opportunity to gain an insight into media and film technology and to learn technical know-how. In addition to promoting media competence and media technology, the focus is also on innovation, expressiveness, creativity and active design.
In this course, we want to tell and digitize stories using technical means. The girls will learn the basics of media work and filming, from planning "What do I show (of myself)?" to dealing with legal issues and publication. What tasks are involved before, during and after a media production? What are the most important basics for storytelling, impressive camera work, lighting, sound editing and more? We use high-quality, ad-free, free open source editing and sound editing programs - because you can do it without expensive software and hardware.
Girls on set and film professionals at your side!
Learn the most important basic techniques of filmmaking and how to work on a film set!
Meet new people with the same interests and realize your own ideas on film!

Report from the "Online Film Lab - Technology for Girls"
Under the impression of the corona crisis, the Film Lab course will continue to be held online in the summer semester 2020. The decision to take this approach had several reasons. On the one hand, we do not want to leave our students, who all come from the younger age group, alone with the monotony of home isolation and want to give them creative impulses. On the other hand, we want to show that exchange, creativity and creation are not tied to places, but can also be realized online in a team.
In consultation with the parents of our young students, we transformed the "Film Lab Technology for Girls" project into the "Online Film Lab" project in mid-March. The response from our students and their parents has been great. All students are also actively involved in the online film lab. Communication takes place via the secure messenger service Signal. We meet as a group once a week in an online session. In the session, we were able to approach and implement all content with the students in the same way as in the previous film lab.
We are currently in the implementation phase of a video project. The video uses storytelling to take advantage of the current situation. The story thrives on the isolation and the resulting development of a new form of communication between the people, they talk about paper swallows they have made themselves.
Our students are currently experiencing a whole new way of being creative as a team. Everyone is very actively involved in the entire development and implementation process, all contributing their own creative skills. They are experiencing the potential of the tools of the future digital working world in a playful way.
