Important current information!
The entrance examination (academic year 2025/26) for the Master's degree programme in Visual Communication is held online!
The prerequisite for admission to the Master's degree programme is the completion of a relevant Bachelor's degree with a focus on Visual Communication: e.g. in Visual Communication, Graphic Design, Photography, Communication Design, Media Design, Information Design or Time-based and Interactive Media.
Admission Standards
Applicants must demonstrate their particular aptitude for the Master's programme in an admissions interview with the selection committee: They present their own work related to the study profile and explain their personal motivation for applying and their self-chosen goals for the Master's programme.
The requirements profile for future Master's students requires specialist knowledge in the field of photography or graphic design, depending on the specialisation. This includes technical knowledge of shooting, lighting and camera technology - both analogue and digital, experience in dealing with space, time and perspective. Furthermore, basic knowledge of workflow and pre-press as well as a command of professional software. Dealing with the history of art and design is just as important as observing current trends. The Graphic Design specialisation also requires extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of typography, typesetting technology and design and composition theory.
A creative-artistic approach, conceptual thinking and an interest in self-positioning in a creative environment are essential for admission to the Master's programme in Visual Communication.
