Aesthetics and Pragmatics of Audiovisual Media

In this media studies subject area, we examine the sensory perception of and through media and how we act with media. We use a very broad concept of media that includes digital media, the Internet, smart media, documentary and feature films, radio plays, experimental formats, infographics, image-text-writing-speaking-reading formats, maps, series and TV, media of knowledge and science, exhibitions, monuments, discourses, voices, institutions, performances, archives and containers, body techniques, skin, gestures and facial expressions as well as the clothing size M, human mediators between different worlds or nutrient solutions for organisms.
Media mediate, merge, remind, refer and demonstrate, transmit, disrupt, disseminate, cover, narrate, fortify, transform, represent, lie, empower ...
Media are always socially, culturally, historically positioned and contextualized. They are part of social power|relations and constitute them.
Media are always political and part of policy making processes.

The courses are aimed at all students at the University of Arts. They are anchored in the BA program Cultural Studies, the MA program Media Culture and Art Theories | MKKT and the artistic|design subjects of the Institute for Media and cover media studies issues of the political, gender|queer studies, the documentary, xxx_abilities, memory cultures, post- and decolonial relations and strategies, and much more. Our concerns are the interweaving of theory and practice, the critical reflection of social conditions and joint research work in a respectful atmosphere.
