Painting and Designing – Creative Work with Children

Creativity formation for the elementary and primary levels

The creative process focuses on the development and personal growth of each single child of a group (school form, kindergarten, daycare centre). The course discusses methods, theoretical backgrounds, pedagogical approaches and neurobiological findings and reflects on the students’ own practical work.

Accompanying free creative processes of groups calls not only for theoretical and practical teaching content, but also for the intensive engagement with the teacher’s or mediator’s own personal positions. The objective lies in reflecting these approaches in theory, practice and didactics.

Painting and designing with children should be understood as a holistic method located within an everyday pedagogical setting, with a special focus on the development of the child’s personality. It is not about “doing the right thing”, attaining technical perfection or an artistic end product. Rather, it is about something very simple: finding a personal expression in two- and three-dimensional creative work.

The curriculum targets adults with pedagogical background knowledge based on training and/or experience and is offered for a duration of 3 semesters as an extra-occupational course.

Creativity education at elementary and primary level

The focus of the creative process is the development and development of each individual child within a group (class, kindergarten, after-school care). In the course, methods, theoretical backgrounds, pedagogical perspectives and neurobiological findings are discussed and one's own practical work is reflected on.

Accompanying free design processes in groups requires, in addition to theoretical and practical content, an intensive examination of one's own personal approach. The aim is to reflect on the approaches mentioned above in theory, practice and didactics.

Painting and designing with children should be seen as a holistic method in everyday educational life. The focus is on the child's personality development. The aim is not to achieve the “right thing”, not technical perfection and not the artistic end product. It's about something very simple: finding your own expression in two- and three-dimensional design.

The course is aimed at adults with pedagogical expertise and/or experience and is offered part-time over 3 semesters.
