The C-FD is a research and training center for future-oriented competencies operating under the auspices of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). It researches, promotes, and disseminates social practices aimed at strengthening the ability to conceive and implement sustainable change. The learning and event formats offered, as well as the future-oriented publications, inspire researchers and leaders alike. The center’s profile is shaped by its integrative approach to addressing questions about the future and its integration of research and practice.
The center was founded in collaboration with international partners from the University of St. Gallen and Stanford University. In 2021, it was designated a “UNESCO Chair on Anticipatory Techniques and Future Design.” In 2025, the center’s leadership was appointed to the UNESCO Intergovernmental Council of the “Management of Social Transformations” (MOST) program. The program collaborates with national authorities, academic circles, and civil society to support UNESCO member states in strengthening the link between research and policy, as well as between knowledge and action.
