MA Technology and Design (teaching degree)

Materializing ideas - this is how the subject can be described in two words.
Work describes both the necessary everyday engagement with material culture and the creative and productive influence on it.
The active and intertwined engagement with artistic-design practice, innovative mediation formats, traditional and new technologies and materials, digitalization and aspects of sustainability, as well as the critical reflection of these topics in practice, research and teaching are essential components of university education in the subject Technology and Design. They enable students to reflect on artistic and creative practice and to develop differentiated and innovative mediation concepts.

The course covers a wide range of subjects, from basic technological knowledge to manual skills, from free experimentation to research-based practice and didactic discourse in a broad field of materials and techniques.

A specific focus is the examination of the interface between (traditional) craftsmanship and new (digital) technologies and their potential in design and communication. The pooling of expertise in areas such as electronic textiles (eTextiles) and digital fabrication technologies (FabLab) is the starting point for practice and research that deals with the interaction of social, technical, theoretical, pedagogical and artistic issues.

Master's degree program in Technology and Design

Duration and degree
4 semesters, "Master of Education" (MEd), part-time study possible
In the Master's degree course, innovation processes are initiated and reflected upon, design and art trends are discussed and new technologies are critically examined. Individual practice is accompanied by the research and conception of new mediation formats. The projects and the Master's thesis offer the opportunity to work on your own/specialist research questions in a targeted manner. The extensive Master's internship is all about professionalization, and reflecting on one's own work in the context of interdisciplinary projects and cooperation with other institutions/companies/partners is an important part of the course. Students thus contribute to the further development of the subject and consolidate their self-efficacy skills.
