Curriculum
The Master programme textile•art•design at Kunstuniversität Linz is a four-semester curriculum designed for graduates of the Bachelor programme textile•art•design or other curricula in the field of fine arts. Students are to be enabled to develop individual artistic positions and use these professionally in a general artistic context.

Focuses

In a world of manifest anonymity in interpersonal relations, the abandoning of practical production processes and the loss of individual ways of access, the concept of textile materials is acquiring growing importance. Apart from the everyday use of textile materials, the field of textiles is increasingly establishing itself as a basic organisational system of aesthetic perception. The wide spectrum of potential applications in the areas of fashion, interior design and art highlights its thematic relevance in diverse embodiments. The nexus between craftsmanship, technology and artistic-creative processes contributes significantly to greater awareness in experiencing our environment and endows it with aesthetically
valuable elements. The curriculum fosters active engagement with creative art forms as well as participation in their development and calls for a discourse on the value and perception of textile objects.

Study objectives
Over the course of the curriculum, students gradually build their knowledge and experience, leading to the independently conceived creation of their own artistic works. On the basis of a Bachelor degree, Master students develop an original artistic position. This skill is to enable them to implement design ideas of a high quality standard in combination with aesthetic innovation. Work on specific projects or freely selected topics is to impart skills that enable students to concretise ideas, develop concepts, implement them and embed their artistic output in socially relevant contexts. Moreover, the curriculum teaches students to reflect on their own practice so as to derive perspectives essential for a professional artistic career. An analysis of the interactions between creative / design-related and economic processes and the positioning of the students’ own work is a key competence conveyed by the curriculum.

Skills profile

Drawing on their creative potential, students are enabled to translate their own ideas and concepts into artworks by means of active design processes. Graduates are thus in a position to prevail in a wide field of creative professions.
The professional fields graduates will enter are increasingly invented by the students themselves. Special importance is thus attached to flexible use of the skills acquired. Inter alia, this comprises freelance artistic work, theoretical-scientific and artistic activities in areas of textile application, art mediation, curatorial work, the management of artistic institutions and the establishment of independent cultural initiatives.
