The Institute of Fine Arts and Cultural Studies, Department of Art History and Art Theory, at the University of Arts Linz invites applications for the position of university assistant (75%) starting March 1, 2025. The monthly salary is 3.564,22 Euros per month (before tax and deductions), 14 times a year, in accordance with Section 49 (1) of the collective bargaining agreement. The contract term is limited to four years.
Research and teaching in the Department is based on an open, interdisciplinary understanding of art history. Applicants should be able to demonstrate an interest in artistic practice, and a strong awareness of gender theory, postcolonial discourse, diversity, and the critical reflection of art historical methods. A research interest in the field of moving image arts would be desirable.
Requirements
- A PhD degree in art history
- A research focus in modern and contemporary art history
- Teaching experience at university level
- Openness for interdisciplinary research
- An interest in artistic and creative working methods
- Preferably several years of teaching experience in higher education
- Organizational and administrative skills
- Social skills, reliability and teamwork skills, and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary context
- Gender and diversity competence
- Very good knowledge of German and English
Fields of activity
- Teaching in the field of modern and contemporary art history, art theory, and gender studies
- Holding examinations, supervising students, supervising Master's theses
- Self-determined research toward a habilitation degree
- Participation in the university’s self-administration
- Collaboration in the planning and implementation of conferences, workshops, and lecture series
- Collaboration on academic publications
- Collaboration in the preparation of third-party funded projects/grant applications
