Lange Nacht der Bühnen 2019

16. November 2019, 20.00 Uhr Deep Space, Ars Electronica Center Linz

Interface Cultures Studentin Monica Vlad nimmt mit ihrer Arbeit “Che si può fare?” an der langen Nacht der Bühnen 2019 teil.

AV live performance by Monica Vlad with guest soprano Johanna Falkinger

When noise music and classical opera meet: Monica Vlad is an experimental audio/visual artist who creates a noise composition based on opera using a live soprano voice interpreted by Johanna Falkinger. The structure is based on three different arias sung by her although these arias were not originally composed for this opera. Similar to the system of an Aria di Baule – a so-called suitcase or insertion aria – the singer is choosing the arias to be sung. In addition, the sound artist Monica Vlad changes the orchestral accompaniment to electronic noise and the classical instruments are replaced by analog machines. The arias, however, are interpreted by the soprano as original.
The theme of this performance is based on feelings of melancholy, sadness, fear of loss, meditation and anger and how music can be used to express and release these emotions.

Lange Nacht der Bühnen (The Long Night of Stages) attracts thousands of night owls to the participating stages in Linz every year. The programme exploits the creative potential of the local theatre, dance, performance, cabaret and music scene. And there are plenty of them in Upper Austria! But not only traditional stages, but also unusual venues are part of this Long Night: the Ars Electronica Center will also become a large stage. Part of the museum’s program includes Monica Vlad and Johanna Falkinger, where noise music meets classical opera. The Urban Artists will be hosting a Hip Hop Dance Battle and the Stelzhamerbund, which is dedicated to dialect poetry, will be performing a poetry slam. We will also choose the Queen or the King of the Deep Quiz at Deep Space. Whoever can answer most of the questions about the Long Night of Stages wins!
