The bachelor programme Sculptural Conceptions / Ceramics starts the first year with a range of lectures during which the students develop individual projects according to different assignments. They are inspired to try out new things and to dare overcome their own boundaries. All in all, the programme encourages students to explore unconventional approaches which can be incorporated into the development of innovative artistic projects. In the further course of the programme, students choose their own thematic priorities. At the same time, lecturers encourage their students to challenge acquired knowledge and to practise new approaches to their individual artistic work.
The bachelor programme comprises 180 ECTS (6 semesters at 30 ECTS each). 60 ECTS are dedicated to the development of artistic projects (Central Art Subject). 84 ECTS must be completed in Labs which are aimed at the acquisition of technical skills. Introductory lectures in the field of ceramic technologies and mould production are compulsory. Furthermore, technical skills can be acquired in all of the university’s workshops (e.g. ceramics, glazing, wood, metal, screen printing, sound, gravure printing, 3D printing or photography). Additionally, Labs offer workshops with artists or help students develop exhibitions in the course of smaller projects. 18 ECTS are allocated to lectures in the study areas of Art History, Cultural Studies and Professionalisation where students can practise different forms of presentation of their own works. 18 ECTS can be completed as Free Electives at all departments of the University of Art and Design Linz or at another recognised domestic or foreign university.
Bachelor project and bachelor examination
The project work of the last semester is the bachelor project. It must be completed by a written thesis reflecting the artistic project. The bachelor examination takes place in the form of a public presentation of the bachelor project in front of an examination board.
