EXHIBITION

Design Jungle – Familiar Products and Unknown Heroes

Inauguration: Wed, 28 October 2009, 9 p.m. Designforum Linz, Pfarrplatz 6, 4020 Linz

For the first time in the history of design in Linz, Upper Austrian top designers and students present a selection of their – partly international award-winning – creations in an exhibition context. Many of the participants, such as Madelene Dumhart, Marek Gut, Robert Kirchschlager, Christoph March, Matthias Roher and Marlene Traxler, studied Industrial Design scionic® at Kunstuniversität Linz.
Moreover, the Industrial Design scionic® programme, whose curriculum was significantly enriched under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dipl.Ing. Axel Thallemer to encompass such scientific disciplines as bionics, will likewise showcase some works at the exhibition. These will e.g. include a design for a famous Linz landmark, the narrow-gauge railway Pöstlingbergbahn, which was used as a model for the brand-new trains recently taken into operation, as well as the upcoming new edition of Axel Thallemer’s book “Scionic, Purpose-driven Gestalt. The End of Design?”.

Background

The exhibition “Design Jungle” is the first public initiative of Designforum Linz, a body representing the interests of Upper Austrian designers. The event is to engender awareness of product design from Linz and familiarise a general audience with the vast design competence domiciled in the Upper Austrian capital.
