In 2008, the then Federal Ministry of Science and Research commissioned Statistics Austria to carry out a statistical survey on research and experimental development in all sectors of the economy every two years. In the higher education sector, the survey aims to collect data on university research and experimental development. In addition, data on administrative, teaching and training activities are also collected.

Quality Management is responsible for coordinating the survey. The preliminary data collection, data transfer and any necessary data corrections are carried out by Quality Management in cooperation with the institutes and departments.
