The University of Arts Linz invites applications for a full-time position as University Professor of “Art and Design” (teacher training programme) starting on 1 March 2026 according to Section 98 of the Austrian Universities Act (UG 2002). The monthly salary of €6,362.50 (before tax and deductions) is based on Section 49 (1) of the collective bargaining agreement. The possibility of a higher salary can be part of the appointment negotiations. The contract term is initially limited to 5 years. Permanent employment is possible.
We are looking for someone with outstanding artistic and teaching skills to join a committed team of artists and art educators to help shape the Art and Design department (Art Education programme) at the Institute of Art and Education. A central area of responsibility of the professorship is teaching art in both the bachelor's and master's degree programmes in Art Education. In particular, the successful candidate should be able to open new possibilities for art and research for the students. In the spirit of forward-looking art education, artistic processes and practices should be taught as an essential part of cultural education and as an important contribution to social debates and participation. The successful candidate’s personal experience with artistic and/or artistic research and art education processes forms the basis of teaching and research.
Essential Qualifications:
· Fine-arts degree or art teacher training degree (from a university,
academy, or other institution of higher education);
· Outstanding artistic or artistic research qualifications, evidenced
by exhibitions, projects, and/or other forms of participation;
· Extensive artistic experience as well as technical and practical
skills in the use of various media of contemporary art;
· Continuous and active participation in international artistic debates
and connections to the art and cultural sector as well as related
approaches to art education;
· Proof of experience in school-based and, if applicable,
extracurricular educational work with children, young people,
and adults and an examination of art education issues;
· Active involvement in current issues in art education;
· Outstanding teaching skills as well as teaching experience in the
tertiary sector (universities / art schools and academies);
· Knowledge of the Austrian school system;
· Organisational and leadership skills;
· Ability to work in a team and good social skills;
· Gender and diversity competence.
Desired Qualifications:
· Interest in an artistic examination of current socio-political issues;
· Experimental/research approach to one’s own artistic practice as
well as providing support to young academics in the field of art and
design;
· Knowledge and expertise in anti-discrimination;
· Experience with the structures and operations of the Austrian
school system;
· Willingness to participate in internal and public activities and
interdisciplinary projects and collaborations, such as co-operation
with regional art and cultural institutions as well as schools and
educational institutions;
· Willingness to participate in committees and take on tasks in the
area of university self-administration as well as in departmental
policy and public engagement, including work on the curriculum
and participation in the Cluster Mitte development network, in local
and international networks as well as professional groups;
· Willingness to be regularly present on site at the university while
it is in session;
· Very good knowledge of German and English and the ability to
teach flexibly in both languages;
· Planning of teaching activities in coordination with one’s colleagues.
