Space and Action

April 30, 2024, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. University of Arts Linz Hauptplatz 6, 4020 Linz Glass Audito

Baukultur invites to a guest lecture by Christopher Dell.

Global migration, climate change and economic and political crises are pushing conventional urban planning methods to their limits. The city has fewer and fewer of the characteristics of a homogeneous object and is instead fragmenting into diverse material contexts of situated action. In this context, Christopher Dell talks about his new book "Raum und Handlung" (“Space and Action”). He puts questions of spatial theory into perspective that deal with the relationship between space and action. He outlines a spatial theory of the urban, the quintessence of which is: constructive action with indefiniteness in structures of human and non-human actors can be thought of as the basis of spatial theory.

Christopher Dell is an urban planning and architecture theorist, composer and musician. Dell was Professor of Urban Design Theory at HafenCity University Hamburg, TU Munich and the University of the Arts, Berlin. Dell is director of ifit, Institute for Improvisation Technology, Berlin. From 2022-23 he was a fellow at the Bundesatelier für Architektur at the cité internationale, Paris.
