Why the Night is never really Dark

To generate ideas, Anna Maria Brandstätter spent time in Linz trying to see the city with fresh eyes. From Schlossberg she consciously observed the Danube, which also flows past her studio in St. Nikola. She observed the bridgehead buildings, the art university, the many students who explore, question, test, carry out and make everything visible. So many ideas and thoughts in the most diverse forms: that is the true currency of a society, says the artist. Like stars or celestial bodies that, after the Big Bang, through explosions and collisions, find a way to define their own orbits. With this idea she began work on a freshly cut slab of limestone slate at the Uferstöckl, Rudi Hörschläger's Printing Workshop in Wallsee. Brandstätter and Hörschläger have known each other since their studies and spent many hours completing this work together.

Living and working in St. Nikola/Donau, Upper Austria, Anna Maria Brandstätter studied Fine Arts - Painting and Graphic Arts at the University of Art and Design Linz. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions and international residencies. Her works are in public and private collections as well as museums.
