Dissertationsstipendium für die Abschlussphase 2022/23

Das Dissertationsstipendium für die Abschlussphase zielt darauf ab, Dissertant*innen in der letzten Phase der Dissertation bis zum Abschluss zu unterstützen.


Gefördert werden
  • Ordentliche Studierenden eines Doktorats- oder Ph.D.-Studiums an der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien oder an der Universität für künstlerische und industrielle Gestaltung Linz.
  • Doktorand_innen die nachvollziehbar darlegen können, dass die Arbeit an der Dissertation bzw. dem Ph.D.-Projekt innerhalb der Stipendienlaufzeit erfolgreich abgeschlossen werden kann.
  • Die zu erwartende Qualität der Abschlussarbeit ist ein zentrales Kriterium bei der Vergabe der Stipendien.


Voraussetzung
  • Das Stipendium kann pro Person nur einmal während der gesamten Laufzeit des Doktoratsstudiums in Anspruch genommen werden.
  • Die Anträge können in deutscher oder englischer Sprache verfasst werden.
  • Die Stipendien sind innerhalb von sechs Monaten ab Zuerkennung anzutreten (Jänner – Juni 2023).
  • Das monatliche Nettoeinkommen bzw. die monatliche Höhe der finanziellen Zuwendungen durch andere längerfristige Förderungen der Bewerber_innen darf im Stipendienzeitraum im Durchschnitt nicht über dem aliquoten Höchststipendium nach dem Studienförderungsgesetz liegen (derzeit € 923,00 pro Monat).


Einzureichen sind
  • Ausgefülltes Antragsformular online

Folgende Dokumente müssen hochgeladen werden:
  • Aktuelles Studienblatt
  • Genehmigte Dissertationsvereinbarung inkl. Exposé (bei Dr. Techn.: unterzeichnete Betreuungszusage)
  • Lebenslauf, inkl. Publikations- bzw. Werkliste und künstlerischem Portfolio
  • Abstract (max. 1 Seite)
  • Detaillierter Arbeits- und Zeitplan bis zum Abschluss der Dissertation bzw. des Ph.D.-Projektes (inkl. voraussichtlichem Abschlusszeitpunkt)
  • Die Doktorand_innen müssen nachvollziehbar darlegen, dass die Arbeit an der Dissertation bzw. dem Ph.D.-Projekt innerhalb der Stipendienlaufzeit erfolgreich abgeschlossen werden kann.
  • (Vorläufiges) Inhaltsverzeichnis der Dissertation bzw. Projektskizze bei künstlerisch-forschenden Arbeiten
  • Zum Zeitpunkt der Antragstellung vorhandene Textteile oder künstlerische Teile des Dissertations- bzw. Ph.D.-Projekts, zum Beispiel die bereits fertig gestellten Kapitel, ein Videoprojekt, die Dokumentation einer Performance etc.

Desweiteren ist ein Empfehlungsschreiben der Doktoratsbetreuerin_des Doktoratsbetreuers beizubringen, in dem insbesondere hinsichtlich der wissenschaftlichen/künstlerischen Qualifikation der Bewerberin_des Bewerbers, der zu erwartenden Qualität und der Realisierbarkeit des geplanten Abschlusszeitpunkts des Dissertationsprojekts Stellung bezogen wird.

Das unterschriebene Empfehlungsschreiben der Doktoratsbetreuer*innen ist als Scan von den Doktoratsbetreuer*innen bitte direkt per Email innerhalb der Einreichfrist an dokzentrum@akbild.ac.at zu übermitteln.

Höhe des Stipendiums
Es können insgesamt sechs Stipendien für jeweils sechs Monate vergeben werden (4 Stipendien Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien, 2 Stipendien Kunstuniversität Linz). 
Die Höhe des Stipendiums beträgt € 1.000,00 pro Monat.
Zuwendungen Dritter (andere Förderungen, Stipendien etc.) sind umgehend bekanntzugeben. Im Falle eines richtlinienwidrigen Bezugs des Stipendiums (z.B. Nicht-Beibringung der Nachweise, Überschreitung der Einkommensgrenze) ist das Stipendium zurückzuzahlen.
Spätestens zwei Monate nach Stipendienende ist ein Arbeitsbericht (max. 1-2 Seiten) per Email zu übermitteln.

Vergabekriterien & Vergabeverfahren
Über die Vergabe des Stipendiums entscheidet die Auswahlkommission mit Vertreter_innen der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien und der Universität für künstlerische und industrielle Gestaltung Linz. Die Auswahlsitzung findet voraussichtlich Ende November 2022 statt.
Die Vergabe der Stipendien erfolgt im Wettbewerb auf Basis der eingereichten Unterlagen. Die zu erwartende Qualität der Abschlussarbeit und die nachvollziehbare Darlegung, dass die Arbeit an der Dissertation bzw. dem Ph.D-Projekt innerhalb der Stipendienlaufzeit erfolgreich abgeschlossen werden kann, sind die zentralen Kriterien bei der Vergabe der Stipendien. Auf die Zuerkennung der Stipendien besteht kein Rechtsanspruch.

Die Bewerber*innen werden nach der Auswahlsitzung per E-Mail über das Ergebnis der Auswahl verständigt.

Unvollständige und nicht zeitgerecht eingereichte Anträge können nicht berücksichtigt werden.

Dissertation Completion Fellowship 2022/23

The dissertation scholarship for the final phase aims to support doctoral students in the last phase of their dissertation until completion.

Funding for
  • Regular students (“ordentliche Studierende”) of all doctoral studies of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna or of the University of Art and Design Linz can apply for the fellowship.
  • The applicants should convincingly convey that the successful finalization of the dissertation or the Ph.D. project is possible during the fellowship.
  • The expected quality of the dissertation or the Ph.D. project is a central criterion in the selection process.

Requirements
  • The fellowship can only be awarded once per person during the whole doctoral/Ph.D. study period.
  • Applications can be submitted either in German or in English.
  • The fellowships have to be started within six months after the applicants have been informed about the award of the fellowship (between January and June 2023).
  • The net income or the amount of other sources of funding (e.g. grants, fellowships, etc.) must not exceed EUR 923,-- per month on average during the fellowship. This amount represents the highest stipend according to the Studies Grant Act.

Application
  • Completed application form in the online submission platform

The following documents need to be uploaded:
  • Current certification of enrollment
  • Approved Dissertation Agreement incl. Exposé (supervision agreement signed with Dr. techn.)
  • CV of the doctoral/Ph.D. candidate, including publication list and/or listing of previous artistic activities and artistic portfolio
  • Abstract of the dissertation or the Ph.D. project (max. one page)
  • Detailed work and time plan for the completion of the dissertation or the Ph.D. project, including the planned date of completion.
  • It has to be convincingly conveyed that the dissertation or the Ph.D. project can be completed during the fellowship.
  • (Preliminary) table of contents of the dissertation or project outline of the arts-based Ph.D. project
  • Existing parts of the dissertation or the Ph.D. project, like e.g. completed chapters, a video project, the documentation of a performance, etc.

Furthermore, a letter of recommendation of the supervisor is necessary, which particularly addresses the following aspects: scientific/artistic qualification of the applicant, expected quality of the dissertation or the Ph.D. project, as well as an assessment of whether the completion of the Ph.D. is feasible within the indicated time frame.

The signed letters of recommendation have to be sent as scans by the supervisors directly to doktoratszentrum@akbild.ac.at via e-mail until submission deadline.

Amount of the scholarship
Overall, six fellowships for six months each can be awarded (4 Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, 2 University of Art and Design Linz).
The amount of the fellowship is EUR 1.000,00 per month.

Funding from third parties (stipends, grants, etc.) has to be announced immediately.

Should the requirements and conditions of the fellowship not be met by the recipients of the fellowship (for example, by exceeding the allowed maximum income, through missing documents, etc.), the fellowship has to be repaid.

No later than two months after the fellowship has ended, a final report (1-2 pages max.) has to be submitted per e-mail.

Criteria for the awarding and decision-making process
The awarding is decided by a jury for the fellowships on the basis of a review of all applications. The jury meeting will take place at the end of November 2022.

The scholarship is awarded on the basis of the submitted documents and according to the financial possibilities. The expected quality of the dissertation or the Ph.D. project and the convincingly outline that the successful finalization of the dissertation or the Ph.D. project is possible during the fellowship are the central criteria in the selection process.

The applicants enjoy no legal right to funding.

The applicants will be informed by e-mail about the results of the selection procedure after the meeting of the panel of experts.

Incomplete and not timely delivered submissions cannot be considered for funding.
