A so-called double date is inherently a complicated affair. If the quartet is also a former couple with new partners, this is usually not a sign of pronounced harmony. Cats, Rats & Lovebirds traces the, well, exemplary (mis)course of such an evening and provides its audience with intensive insights into the interwoven relationships of four different personalities. It would all be quite simple, if it weren't for a salt shaker, crystal structures and the damned uncertainty principle ...

As part of WTZ (Knowledge Transfer Center), the University of Arts Linz works on new and alternative strategies of science communication. In continuation of three movies "Maybe Palermo", "Rhinospider - An Operation in Three Acts" and "Battery Betty", this successful science movie series continues with "Cats, Rats & Lovebirds", a cinematic approach to basic research. The fourth project of it's kind deals with fundamental aspects of Silicon photonics and in particular with electrically-driven Germanium quantum dot lasers towards on-chip applications. This chamber play from long drinks to quantum physics and nanolasers was developed in close collaboration between the University of Arts Linz, Moritz Brehm and Martyna Grydlik from the Institute of Semiconductor and Solid State Physics at Johannes Kepler University Linz and Luzi Katamay and Christian Dietl from LAS GAFAS FILMS.
