Inaugural lecture by Univ.-Prof.in Dr.in phil. Nora Landkammer in the field of didactics - mediation - research at the Institute of Art and Education.

Unlearning coloniality?

Colonial structures, images and ways of thinking have an impact on the present - what does this mean for critical educational work? The lecture presents findings from a discourse-analytical study that examined mediation in ethnological museums in German-speaking countries. The analysis of interviews with educators discusses unlearning beyond the buzzword character as action in contradiction in an institutional context. What is necessary so that a critique of colonial entanglements can also lead to a change in educational practice? This is followed by perspectives for the Department of Didactics - Mediation - Research, including for the workshop for action research, in which students pursue questions for artistic education that is critical of discrimination in practice.

Nora Landkammer is an art educator and, as a professor at the Institute of Art and Education, heads the Department of Didactics - Education - Research. Trained as a teacher of visual arts education and Spanish, she teaches and researches discrimination-critical perspectives in art education and its institutions, most recently at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich and the Zurich University of the Arts, where she was deputy director of the research institute Institute for Art Education. The combination of educational practice and knowledge production with methods of action research is an essential part of her teaching at the University of Arts Linz. She is part of the collective EAR and active in the network Another Roadmap for Arts Education.
