Even the Dutch cultural historian Johan Huizinga was convinced that play is a fundamental element of human culture and society. He coined the term „Homo Ludens“ – „the playing human“, to emphasize that play is an innate human need. Play serves not only for entertainment, but also for learning, building social bonds and discovering creative forms of expression.
In the exhibition „Playground“ the students of the Timebased and Interactive Media Art at the University of Art and Design Linz take these aspects of creative play as a model. The exhibited works show the diversity of the program and the playful approach to a wide variety of media. Different artistic perspectives and forms of expression come together on the „Playground“. A mixture of painting, installation, film and interactive media.
