A fascinating portrait on the 70th anniversary of the city planned by Le Corbusier: Chandigarh. The documentary shows the encounter between Western architecture and Indian lifestyle and illuminates the light and dark sides of this architectural work.
70 years ago, Le Corbusier completed his life's work with Chandigarh, a city of millions that is considered an avant-garde vision of modernity. The film follows four Indian artists from Chandigarh and reflects with them on this utopia.
“The power of utopia - living with Le Corbusier in Chandigarh” by Swiss filmmakers Karin Bucher and Thomas Karrer tells the story of an avant-garde vision. The film takes a look at the diversity of India from a European perspective and poses the question of how closely our society is actually interwoven with architecture and what we can take away from Chandigarh for the present day.
The screening was followed by a discussion on the film, which was moderated by Lotte Schreiber. The architect duo Heidi Pretterhofer and Michael Rieper contributed with their insights to deepen and discuss the subjects of the film.
