New chair for Baukultur in Linz

The subject of Baukultur is to be given significantly more weight in Upper Austria in future. The University of Arts Linz and the Catholic Private University of Linz are setting up a state-funded chair to conduct joint research on this topic. The department of Science, Minister Markus Achleitner, will finance the chair for five years.

Vibrant town centers, sustainable building, economical land use, the preservation of our architectural heritage and the promotion of high-quality public spaces: Upper Austria is focusing on Baukultur with a new platform and its own chair.

„It's about many things: vibrant town centers, sustainable construction and the preservation of our architectural heritage.” (english translation 2024) Governor Thomas Stelzer

„I would put it casually like this: it makes an impact when you can drive through this beautiful country and don't have to touch your head so often when you see it.“ (english translation 2024) Josef Stockinger

„The reputation of the architecture department at the University of Arts Linz extends far beyond Austria: sustainable and socially responsible architecture is taught and practiced here. Questions of Baukultur have always shaped the profile of the university. Implementing a corresponding chair here is logical and the right thing to do. And the collaboration with practitioners will be particularly exciting.“, (english translation 2024) states Brigitte Hütter, Rector of the University of Art and Design Linz.
